Computer is Hosed

I am probably going to have to get a new laptop so it may be a bit before I can start posting again, it works but I am not saving anything to it right now and seriously who wants to read this without pics!

Recent Projects

Washcloth for Ewetopia beginner crochet class - simple sc in blo washcloth for half of it, then dc in blo on other half. Just enough to give a sample of what each looks like. Yarn is Cascade Luna (bought at Ewetopia) which is pretty nice!

Tawashi Scrubbie for Ewetopia beginner crochet class - this pattern was pretty easy but I didn't see that it was supposed to be worked in the back loops only and I didn't understand how to put it together in the end. I have since found a video that shows how this is done so my next one won't be jimmy-rigged! This yarn was Peaches & Cream but my next one that is just the diagonal washcloth shape is Cascade Sierra which I also like (and bought at Ewetopia). I will put it together during the class to show how to do it. I am also sure I will have other samples made up by then too (Aug 8)

This little guy is just one of the cubes made from the Square Chicks pattern from Roman sock. I simply did the square part then added some wings (made from a heart). This was put together for my sister's friend who wanted a cubey of her own!

Day 2 of the Diet

Already I am having cravings! Just a little bit won't kill me will it?

Saturday, June 27, 2009

I'm officially on a Yarn Diet!!!

So the story begins with an empty shelf. The hubs and I were discussing my yarn access problem and he voluntarily gave up his dvd shelf for me (he wants another) and so off he went to empty it and I cleaned out the corner (from hell) to make room. The original idea was that I would put in pieces of wood to divide the shelves by creating an X effect but I couldn't wait for that so I started filling it up with the yarn I had in my bedroom:

So I put all my yarn in order, neutral colors first, then your rainbow (mixing in pink with the reds) and then my stripes. If you look closely you will see that there is still room in all the cubes. I was so proud of all my beautiful yarn, it was all on display now and it was soft and pretty and colorful and .... ok getting sidetracked. It was like a mini yarn shop of my very own. I could choose any color to use and there it was to go grab! But wait, if memory serves me right, I think I have a few more skeins down in the basement... let me go get them and pop them onto the shelf.

And so down stairs I went to get the few skeins I had left to add... and 5 duffel bags later.... Now my yarn shelf is so full that I am glad yarn is soft and squishy! I sure had to squish in a lot of yarn!! I found tubs I didn't know I had. The original plan was to use one cube for books and notions... guess that didn't work out!

What colors do you think are my favorite?

Want to know another secret?? I didn't add in my novelty yarns or some of my less loved acrylics...... ack!!

Anyone else want to donate a dvd shelf?

Busy Summer

I'm sorry, I have been a bad blogger, life has been so busy lately and I don't foresee it calming down anytime soon!!
My sis did my new banner, let me know what you think!

Some of the thing I've completed recently:

The flying pig for my friend Jacqui. I used my Pig pattern with wings from Roxycraft's pig. She loved it so much now she wants a bigger one to hang in her hair salon!! That is on the backburner for now because I have so much on my plate for now.

I call this the Lippy frog, pattern is from Roman Sock but I had a different weight yarn for the white (on the bottom) so I thought well I will just make it an extra row... and it worked til I went to sew the pieces together!! LoL, well that was pretty funny because it totally warped his bottom lip. So I decided he must be allergic to flies and needs to be on a strict froggy vegetarian diet so he doesn't go into anaphylactic shock! The swelling has gone down some now and he is much healthier without all that fatty fly meat!

Here is the garden as of a 5 days ago, it is getting crazy big!! I have now gotten about 20 green beans out of it and a yellow squash!! I did lose some squash and zucchini because my soil settled and needed refilled. Since then they have been much happier!!
This is another little (!) edition to the yarn, yes it is a grass killer but dd11 and dd13 have had a blast on it since we brought it home! Its great exercise and gets them outside!
I will try to post more. Right now I am currently working on crocheting a scrubbie tawashi for a beginner crochet class I am doing at Ewetopia in early August, I also need to make another jellyfish for an Amigurumi class I am doing end of July also at Ewetopia .

Frogs and Owls

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I had a class at Ewetopia where I was able to teach two wonderful students how to make the cutest frog and owl patterns by Brigette Read (with her permission of course). Both were previous students from the class where I taught my sheep pattern (to be posted soon). I enjoyed myself and hope they both did too. Over the course of the three hours we did get one compete frog done each and also a good start on an owl. I feel it was a success and I have been asked to come back again.

Here is a picture of Cheryl's frog (taken on dd11's cellphone):

I love this shop, honestly I feel so at home when I walk in and it is just a great atmosphere. Some lys I have been in have been intimidating or you feel like you shouldn't touch anything. Here they encourage touching, trying, they know what they are talking about and they just have people drop in to work on projects!! If I was to ever open a shop it would be just like this one! I wish it was closer but I will say it is my favorite hang-out!! The best part? That they really seem to encourage youth to get involved in knitting/crochet. I love that!!

Secret Project

Alrighty, I have come up with a plan, my creative juices are flowing mightily. I am currently writing patterns and trying them out. Maybe I can get my etsy shop going again.

Here is the first pattern I just finished:
What do you think, am I on the right track to cuteness?

Is this Hot or What!

Please check out Lion and Lamb Love for many more!!

Bleh! Tuesday Blahs...

So today wasn't super great at that place that pays me to work there. Sometimes I just get so sick of all the petty, stupid drama. I am sure many of you know what I mean. I won't go into details but needless to say people need to get a life and look at life from different views!

Oh who cares, no one peeking at this blog does. So I am looking for someone who can help me fix up this blog, help me figure out how to do a nice header, I have the basis of one but don't know photoshop well enough. Help me out on how to get buttons to my fave sites on here, tell me what is needed, what I should keep out, etc... JUST HELP PLZ!!!

I currently am working on some new patterns, they are a surpise, I want to carry this further if I can and perhaps get into selling patterns and teaching more classes. I really enjoy this and would like to pursue this more. Hence why I cannot improve on the blog since my wee little mind only focuses on one creative thing at a time!!

Garden pics from 6/3/09 (everything is twice that size now!):

These pics are of my Topsy Turvy Grape Tomato, yellow squash and the new (live) cucumber plants. I will update with pics from today soon! Everything is growing so fast!! I have blooms on my zucchini already!!

Bad Blogger, Bad Girl!!!

Ok, so I have not been very good at this but in my defense I am a busy lady!! We had soccer tournaments over the weekend and it was the end of the school year. I struggle to get pics from camera to computer to blog and don't feel it is worth posting without some pretty pics. So hopefully you all will forgive me (not that there are many of you out there).
First order of business, latest creations:

Another Mario 'Shroom

Also I have been busy cleaning out "that corner" of my room, you all know, the corner that we all toss our left over yarn, bags of new yarn, tidbits of nonsense we aren't currently working on, etc... it has been building for *cough, cough* several years. But this weekend I did it, I cleaned it out, I found unbelievable stuff and projects on the knitting needles (haven't knit in about 2 years) that I cannot even remember what I was making. I don't normally go by a pattern when I knit so it was all in my head and I feel like me and the girls might have a frogging party soon! Anyway, I had the girls bring all the yarn out into the living room to sort... ummmm... did ya'll know yarn breeds like bunnehs??? Where did it all come from and that wasn't my stash yarn, that is downstairs all nice and organized, this was just current project yarn. Wow!! It was exciting and scary. Hubby is going to help me find a place to access it better. Kids sorted by color and will be sorted by fiber when shelf is ready. Here are some pics:

Now this is just a small sampling that I could get on camera... it doesn't include the 2 pillowcases of llama wool, sheeps wool, numerous felting bits and tools, nor does it include any needles and accessories I had laying around!! I think I need help, Yarn Anonymous anyone?? I swear I didn't take a moment to roll in it, but if I did, I certainly didn't enjoy it ending up with numerous yarny bits all woven in my hair... sigh....
Ok, well I have to go for now, look for updates on the garden and what's new with the girls in the next post!!

Jellyfish

Ok, so I owed dd13 an octopus. I gave hers to the shop where I am teaching classes so they could have some amigurumi to display (along with some sheep, owls and frogs). Now we won't even discuss the fact that she has already been given a Mario star, a purple cube, a sheep, a snail, whale, and the numerous projects I have made for her friends... nope, we won't discuss those projects. We will discuss the "When are you going to make me an octopus to replace the one you gave away Mom?" "Woe is me, I have no octopus" "I live an octopus free life, nobody loves me"... Ok so its not that bad, just the first quote is accurate (live my life and you will understand the others).
Well I started on the octopus and it was a nice lovely dark blue, but then I had a sprig of inspiration and asked her did she want an octopus or did she want a jellyfish!?! She chose jellyfish and I was excited to try the tentacles। I just had an idea in my head and voila, we have a jellyfish. It has rainbow, pink, yellow, and lt blue tentacles. It was pretty fun to make and turned out like the visual in my head. I didn't write this one down but really it was easy to repeat. Best of all dd13 loves it. It was explained that this replaces the octopus but they forget easily at this age. I doubt I hear the end of it!

Newest Ami - Mario Mushroom

Here is my newest amigurumi, I just loved this pattern, it was so easy and quick. How classic is this little character! This little guy is a free pattern from WolfDreamer so be sure and visit her blog!!

Gardens, Garage Sale Plunder and Gorgeous Weather!!

Well the weekend is almost over, only a few hours of daylight left and I feel I have accomplished so much yet there is so much more to go. I finally uploaded my pics and am able to share with you all (ok so no one reads this but me but maybe somewhere down the road someone may see this!).

First off my garden is doing rather well, except for the cucumbers which died a miserable death of unknown causes. I went out and bought another so hopefully they will do better. I also got a Super Sweet 100 Cherry tomato plant also. So here is pics of what I have planted:
Grape Tomatoes-----------------mini pumpkins-------------------zucchini

bush beans-----------------------yellow squash
I don't have pics of the new cucumbers or the new cherry tomatoes yet though.
The whole container garden set:

--------patio---------------homemade trellis for climbing veggies
I have also finished my Faerie Garden (so named because I wanted the faeries to have a lovely spot to rest)

On Saturday, the family and I went to the garage sales, we haven't done this in a while and boy did we make out like bandits!! My dd13 scored on a box full of mini dinosaurs (latest obsession), hubby got some cd's and dvd's, dd11 got a few stuffed animals and some cute clothes and I scored by racking up on some yarn and crochet/knit books/mags. I also got a hook, buttons, noses, and some odds and ends!! All for under $20 or so!

Pics:

Various acrylics and cotton -----buttons, hook, decorative buttons, noses
more acrylic yarn----------------some fiberfil

Here is a look at the decorative buttons, I am going to use these on my ami's for eyes and various decorations. They look like buttons from the '70's. I love them!!

I have lots more to share but am sure this is enough for now!
